Hello,
Oil is cheaper than real butter so it simply can’t be as good as butter. Butter is always superior in taste although regarding texture it is less soft than oil. Texture is a matter of preference so it’s difficult to say which one is better. Using oil for cupcake is unusual but you can use it though – the recipe needs to be completely re-tested if you are using oil rather than butter. I guess you can use a mix of oil and butter.
